I'm stressed.
Mitt Romney is a disrespectful ass, but Barak Obama is being a pain tonight. I'm sure others will say he did much better this debate than the last, but I feel like he was just dodging away from some of the questions/issues.
What made me turn off the t.v. though, was the question about assault weapons. I think assault weapons are dumb, and that guns are generally not something I want to have to deal with. But, I hate when Obama repeatedly mentioned that he wanted to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill.
Mental illness is not a valid reason to prevent someone from owning a gun! Nor is a criminal record, unless it has something to do with guns and violence. Saying these things marginalizes millions of people. I admit, I personally care more about mentally ill people being marginalized than criminals.
There isn't a generally accepted definition of mental illness. If you have ever been very depressed does that make you mentally ill? You know what, this line of thought doesn't even matter, except to continue the thought that mental illness is considered something scary. Which it isn't! It's just another medical problem. Speaking of which are alcoholics and other addicts mentally ill?
It's not even just that there are laws prohibiting mentally ill people from owning guns (I doubt it is generally a problem for people to just not mention that their history includes a hospitalization or whatever). The problem is that you are oppressing a group of people. And Mr. Obama, a few questions back to that girl asking about equal pay for women said that we cannot accept discrimination in any walk of life. Stupid crumb-bum.
